Regenera®

In this treatment, several hair follicles with their surrounding adipose tissues are extracted from a non-Alopecia affected region of the scalp (much like the FUE method). These tissue samples along with a saline solution are mechanically disintegrated using the Regenera device. This process includes breaking down the skin structure and filtering the resultant solution to particles smaller than 50 micrometers. This disaggregation of small tissue sample solution (also known as micrografts) is then reinjected to the affected hair loss area to induce regeneration and regrowth. This process does not include any added chemicals or medications and relies solely on the patient’s own donor tissues.

These micrografts have shown high regenerative capacities in human in vitro cell studies. Furthermore, this treatment has shown to be effective at shortening the dormant phase of hair follicles and inducing regrowth.

Expected Results

Regenera treatment results vary in different patients. While some patients experience impressive regrowth, others do not respond well. This has to do with the patient`s scalp condition and the extent of hair loss. This treatment stimulates the healthier hair follicles and signals them into growth. This means that in order for this treatment to be efficacious, the hair follicles in the affected region must be at an earlier stage of hair loss. In general, patients whose scalp is in a healthy condition (do not suffer from chronic inflammation or infection), and have a higher density of healthy hairs tend to respond better to Regenera. Therefore, earlier stages of hair loss are expected to see best results from this treatment.    

By examining the scalp condition with a dermoscope, we can assess the condition of the scalp and the extent of hair loss.  In short, the earlier the hair loss progression, the higher the response rate.

With that in mind, studies conducted on monitor patients receiving this treatment show a high efficacy rate. The treatment leads to majority of patients experiencing an increase in hair thickness and reduction in hair loss rate which leads to noticeable outcomes. Further evaluations of test patients showed an increase in epidermis thickness, and increase in the amounts of blood vessels within the follicle and increase in perifollicular collagen fibers.  

 

Long term efficacy of Regenera treatment is still under review. From our preliminary data we can conclude that the patients who benefited from this treatment, tend to keep most of the results for at least one year. After that, shedding is observed in some patients which makes this treatment a perfect adjunct to other therapies rather than a stand alone option. For some patients with enough donor density, repeated treatments can also be an option.
